1 Honiara – staying at Christine’s house

3 Shopping at Central Market – pawpaw is peng
4 Making new friends
5 Being able to speak a new language – Pijin

THINGS TO DO IN SOLO
1 Take a real rainforest walk
2 Visit a World War 2 site
3 Enjoy a sundowner by the sea
4 Go to the provinces – West is best! Malaita is something else.
5 Take a boat ride in a motorised canoe

UNMISSABLE IN SOLO
1 Walk to Tenaru or Matanikau waterfalls
2 Eat a tropical breakfast of pawpaw, pineapple and guava
3 Buy some Solomon souvenirs at DJ Graphics’ store or carvings
4 Snorkel on the Japanese sunk ship, Bonegi 2
5 All those chance meetings: coincidences happen all the time

GET THE CULTURE
1 Shop at the main market
2 Have a B&Q at Hammock Beach
3 Go to a cultural night or display (eg, Wed night at Mendana Hotel for bamboo bands and custom dancing)
4 Snorkelling is always fantastic
5 Try betel nut

WANT A FAVOURITE CRAFT TO TAKE HOME
1 Nguzu Nguzus (wooden heads) are fabulous
2 Coconut wood bowls
3 Old ladies carved from river stones
4 Figures of Kessica the fishing god
5 Stone necklaces (little fish)
6 Sago palm carved fish
7 Wooden canoes
8 Woven baskets or mats or trays
